Salvation Army Casseroles assist the Salvation Army in its mission to feed the local hungry by providing breakfast casseroles and hard-boiled eggs.

Casserole Baker: one casserole can be made in about an hour at home for approximately $5. It's a simple recipe that can be made by all ages and makes a great service project for youth groups and families. Pans and recipes are available in the Parish Hall and can be delivered to the church and placed in the freezer at any time. One casserole can be made in about an hour.

Team Baker: once a month bake casseroles with a team in the church kitchen. 30 minutes to 2 hours

Egg Boiler: 30 minutes to 1 hour

Church Opportunity Group (COG) is a coalition of 11 western suburban churches actively and collaboratively involved in Christian service to the community. COG works with West Des Moines Human Services to help individuals and families in need in Urbandale, Clive, Waukee, West Des Moines, Windsor Heights and western Des Moines.

St. Timothy's Representative to COG: attend monthly COG meetings (the first Tuesday of the month from 7-8 p.m. - September through May, no meeting in February), act as the St. Timothy's liaison to COG activities, and coordinate St. Timothy's volunteers for COG monthly activities. 2 hours per month (September - May)

Chaperone for Children's Shopping Spree: in early December, COG finances a shopping trip for at least 80 children from families in need so they can shop for their family. COG provides chaperones to take the children shopping and help them select and wrap Christmas gifts for their family members. One time - 3 hours in December

Eddie Davis Community Center Meal Preparer or Server: select one evening (meals are served every Tuesday and Thursday evening from September through May) to prepare and serve a complete and nourishing dinner to families and individuals who are also utilizing the services of the community center. 3-4 times - 1-2 hours for each meal served

Personal Care Items Collection: throughout the year, COG collects personal care items to benefit clients of West Des Moines Human Services. COG members collect items from sponsoring churches and take them to West Des Moines Human Services. 3-4 times - 1-2 hours each collection

Senior Citizen Luncheon: help provide food and/or fellowship for senior citizens in our community. COG provides everything from the meal to the entertainment. The luncheon is hosted at one of the COG churches in early April. One time - 1-2 hours in April

Food Delivery to the homebound and elderly in West Des Moines

Delivery Person: pick up boxes and deliver them to designated recipients. Deliveries occur on the second Friday afternoon and Saturday morning of the month. Volunteers must be able to drive, walk up steps and lift a 20 pound box. Volunteer opportunities for one or both days, this also makes a great family ministry. 1 to 3 hours per month

The Family Violence Center assists families in our community struggling with domestic abuse. St. Timothy's supports their work in various ways.

Donor: respond to the changing needs of the FVC posted in the weekly bulletin and online. As needed

Volunteer: assist with special projects such as preparing and serving a celebration meal like Valentines Day, coordinate special treats for moms and children on holidays, participate in painting or cleaning projects around the Center. As needed

Cool Congregations strives to encourage the members of St. Timothy's to become more environmentally aware and better stewards of God's creation both as individuals and as a parish - a program of Interfaith Power and Light,

Facilitator/Leader: measure and monitor the carbon footprint of the church while working across ministries and commissions to find ways to increasingly reduce the carbon footprint of St. Timothy's.  Efforts would be regularly reported in the St. Timothean. 1 hour per week from home

Recycler-CFL Bulbs and Batteries: collect used bulbs and batteries in the Parish Hall and take to the Hazardous Waste Center in Bondurant. 3 hours once a year or as needed

Recycler-Office Paper and Service Bulletins: pick up paper once a week from St. Timothy's office and place it in your home recycle box. 30 minutes per week

Recycler-Plastic and Cardboard: pick up materials from the recycle bin in kitchen and place them in your home recycle box. Twice a month or as needed

Recycler-Cans and Bottles: pick up cans and bottles from the recycle bin in the Parish Hall, redeem at store, and return cash to St. Timothy's office. Once a month or as needed

The FreeStore gives furniture and other household items to families coming out of the Family Violence Center and other families in need.

Pickup Crew: pick up donated furniture. Individuals should be strong enough to lift tables, couches, etc. It's helpful if volunteers can drive the FreeStore truck. 4-hour shift (total need is about 8 hours per month)

Greeter: meet women who come to the FreeStore for furniture. Usually work in crews of 2 (nice for couples). Greeters are usually "on call" for one week, every 4 or 5 weeks. It is helpful, but not required, if Greeters can also assist with delivery. 4-hour shift (total need is about 8 hours per month)

Warehouse Maintenance: organize the furniture and household goods that are donated so the items are easily accessible to clients. As needed (Maintenance is done on Tuesday mornings from 9-11:30 and occasionally on Fridays from 9-11:30)

Scheduler: use telephone and computer skills to answer voice mail messages, direct them to the correct person, return calls regarding donations, and coordinate pickups with Pick-up crew. 10 to 15 hours per week every 3 or 4 weeks

Mover: carry and move furniture, help women who are leaving the FVC to carry their selections into their new apartments. It is helpful if Mover can drive truck. 4-hour shift, usually Saturday mornings

Office Helper: assist with FreeStore website and maintain Access database. 4-hour shift 

The Mitten Tree collects hats, scarves and mittens which are given to needy children in the West Des Moines Schools and the Family Violence Center.

Coordinator: publicize the need for mittens, gloves and scarves, set up the mitten tree in the Parish Hall, deliver the donations sometime in January. 4 hours during the months of November and December

Knit, purchase, or donate hats, mittens, or scarves: children's hats, scarves or mittens may be knitted or purchased anytime during the year and hung on the mitten tree in November and December. Scarves and mittens/gloves are in greatest need. As needed

Santa Sacks provide families in need with Christmas gifts and food baskets and are collected and donated by St. Timothy's in conjunction with West Des Moines Human Services.

Coordinator: find parishioners willing to "adopt" each name on the list provided by Human Services. Duties also include establishing delivery schedules and providing updates and reminders to parish and volunteers. 20 to 30 hours (late October through the Sunday before Christmas)

Adopter: contact the family (information provided) to determine gift selections, purchase gifts, wrap them, return them to church for blessing, and deliver gifts if you desire. As needed

Donator: give money and or gift cards if you don't have the time or inclination to do the shopping. The time it takes to write a check

Delivery Person: deliver gifts and food baskets to designated families. This requires the ability to drive, but is a great opportunity for families. 1 to 8 hours as needed
