Parish Life Commission

“By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another." John 13:35

Parish Life activities involve all those that help us get to know one another.  These activities are primarily social and are developed to help us build a strong Christian Community at St. Timothy’s Church.  Some involve many members and some involve only a few.  There is always room for more people to participate at all levels, from organizing an event, to bringing a meal, to coming just for the sheer fun involved.

Ministries (Activities) in the Parish Life Commission

Newcomers
In 2006, many new faces have made their way into this community.  Overall, 35 new individuals and families have discerned St. Timothy's as the place to be for spiritual nourishment and fellowship. This experience of reaching out to guests and new people through notes, personal visits and phone calls has helped me to discover next steps.   I hope to continue this process with the help of a team and together we will plot a course for a more thorough welcoming and orienting of folks to St. Timothy's and the Episcopal Church.

Sunday Fellowship Hour
Refreshments following Sunday services are prepared by members who attend the 8 AM service, and serving and clean up is done by members attending the 10:15 AM service. Approximately 20 families are involved in this  ministry and many more people enjoy the breads, cookies and donuts that are provided each Sunday.

First Sunday Breakfast
The Men of St. Timothy’s are proud to serve breakfast on the on the first Sunday of most months between the two services.  The breakfast includes egg casseroles and an assortment of other treats.  This event provides a great opportunity for the men to showcase their culinary skills and to mingle in a relaxing and enjoyable atmosphere.

Hands and Hearts
Hands and Hearts is a subgroup of the ECW which meets the first Monday of each month in the Parish Hall. This group works on projects that support various ministries in the Parish. We are currently working on Jesse Tree ornaments for our youngest members and later in the year will be creating a special surprise to help our youth celebrate the Nativity of our Lord’s birth.

Geodes
Geodes is a social and caring group, composed of singles and couples, usually over age 60, although younger people are welcome to attend. Bountiful potlucks are the favorite social event, usually held on the fourth Friday night of the month in the parish hall.  The potluck is sometimes preceded by a social hour.

Men's Wednesday Lunch Group
Each Wednesday men from St. Timothy's meet over lunch for fellowship.  No two meetings are the same since people join when they are able to.  Topics range from baseball to careers to church projects and issues related to faith and politics.  We have from three to twelve men each week.  We gather at about 11:30 to 11:45 at the Cub Club at Principal park.

Church Picnic
The Church Picnic is celebrated at the beginning of the program year on the second Sunday of September.  It is a potluck event with the main course provided by the church and is staged outside after the 10:15 AM service.

Trunk or Treat
This event celebrates All Saints Day as well as All Hallows Eve.  Families decorated the trunks of their cars, allowing for children, of all ages, to dress up in their favorite Halloween costumes and “trick or treat” at each trunk.  Participants shared a potluck dinner in the Parish Hall after the event.

Blessing of the Animals
In October, St. Timothy’s holds its annual Blessing of the Animals service.  Member of the Parish, and the surrounding community, bring their pets (and some stuffed animals) to receive a special blessing.  This service is held around the feast day of St. Francis of Assisi in remembrance of his love for all creatures.

Funeral Receptions
Volunteers donate prepared food for funeral luncheons, or other refreshments as needed.  This is a quiet, personal ministry in which you can share your love and concern for your fellow St. Timotheans when it is needed most.  We all know how much seemingly small gestures of such kindness can be of great comfort at times of grief.  All are welcome to participate in this ministry.

Receptions
Receptions may be planned for weddings and other occasions such as the Bishop’s visitation, confirmations, to honor graduates, and other special events.  This ministry involves such things as setting up for the events, decorating tables, and arranging for and serving the refreshments, as well as cleanup after the event.  This is a meaningful and fun ministry.
